John Charles Kauffman
John Charles Kauffman was born August 28, 1950 in Hawthorne California to parents Charles John Kauffman and Doris Aradene Jacobson. He had one sister Leigh Anne Kauffman.
He graduated Sparks High School in Nevada, enlisted in the Army in 1967 and was honorably discharged in 1969. He attended Cleveland Institute of Electronics where he studied Wireless Communications. He opened The Service Center in Reno where he repaired electronic equipment and got to meet Carlos Santana among many other well-known musicians. He moved to Oregon to care for his aging mother in the 80’s.
He met Tamara Hampton in February 1989 and they married two years later in April 1991. They opened The Dalles Electronics in 1993 and kept it open until 2004 when John became ill and was forced into early retirement.
John enjoyed hang gliding, boating, water skiing, bowling, and volleyball before his back injury. After that he turned to less physical hobbies, coin collecting, darts, pinball, gardening, movies, jigsaw puzzles, and cross words. He was a huge Star Trek fan, going to several conventions. He rebuilt and rode motorcycles, going on many road trips with his friends. He also enjoyed target shooting and making his own bullets. John loved music and played the piano and electric guitar. He also loved animals and children. But most of all he loved Jesus. John came to faith in 1990 and was baptized. He was a member of The Dalles Evangelical Church where he served for many years.
John went home to heaven on October 10, 2020 and is survived by his wife, Tamara Kauffman; children, Jason Kauffman and his wife Shawndra, Jennifer Gonzales and her husband Trey, Joshua Kauffman, and Marie Kauffman; five grandchildren, Kaleb, Gabriel, Isaac, Cilas and Olivia Kauffman.
