Clifford Sidney Baker

Clifford Sidney Baker was born November 12th, 1930 in Dufur, Oregon; To Sidney Ulysses Baker and Velma May Ensley Baker.  He passed away with family by his side on March 3rd, 2022 in The Dalles, Oregon.

He lived on Tygh Ridge with his parents and three older sisters where his parents ranched. He attended Harmony Lane School located on the property they farmed 1st-8th grade. He then attended high school in Dufur where he graduated in 1948.

His family worked the ground with horses until sometime in his high school years, when they purchased a crawler tractor. He worked for various ranchers on Tygh Ridge after high school including Bill Hulse.

He married Inez Blair November 7th, 1952 in The Dalles, Oregon. He would jokingly say they got married and when they came back home from their honeymoon he had aged a year. This was because his birthday is on November 12th, five days after his wedding day.

In 1956 he moved his young family to Twisp, Washington, where his oldest sister and brother in law lived.  Clifford worked at a saw mill and managed an apple orchard. In 1959 he moved his family back to the Tygh Ridge area to farm the John and Anna Lousignont property.  In 1968 he became more involved with the daily farm work on the property where he grew up, adding it to his full time duties in 1971 when his parents retired. In 1975 he added more property to his acreage in Wrentham where they lived until 1996. They moved to their property on Japanese Hollow Road where he resided until his passing. He fully retired from farming in 2015.

His passions were his faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus and Farming.  He attended Grace Covenant Church in Dufur all of his life, where he taught Sunday school, and played trumpet in the instrument ensemble over the years. He helped with many building and ground maintenance projects and repairs at the church property. Also, every year he cut firewood for the church fellowship hall and parsonage.

He was preceded in death by his wife Inez, sisters Leta, Anna and Freda. He is survived by his son Curt and wife Gwen in Soap Lake, Washington, Tony in Dufur, Oregon, and Gerald and wife Janet in The Dalles, Oregon, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Dufur Christian Church, Saturday April 9th at 11am, a fellowship meal to follow. Memorials can be made to Grace Covenant Church in lieu of flowers.
