Norman Leo Cox

Norman Leo Cox, born December 17, 1929 passed away July 2, 2022 by pneumonia while residing in the Oregon Veterans Home for the past 5 years. Norman was born in Walla Walla, WA. The draft board picked Norman up in Montana (working on a cattle ranch) and he was taken to Fort Lewis for Army training as a Coxswain-Boatswain Senior deck petty Officer in charge of the crew and boat who captained 2 P.T. Boat’s in the US Army Amphibs at the end of WWII. He spent 18 months in the Army in the Philippines and Japan. After the Army he attended a technical school in 1950. Norman married Deloris Ruth Berg on February 16, 1957, and the marriage lasted 65 years. Norman worked a total of 55 years with various trucking companies including Consolidated Freightway, Georgia Pacific, and 23 years at Silver Eagle Trucking out of Portland, OR. He was a member of the Portland Powell Church of God for 20 years, where he taught teenage boys in Sunday school. Later after moving to The Dalles, he became a member of The Life in Christ Center Church for 25 years. He enjoyed building model airplanes and flying them with his buddies. He also enjoyed digging, finding special rocks, (rockhound) and making jewelry for Deloris.

He was survived by his wife Deloris R. Cox and his three daughters, Lynda J. and husband Darrel Starr, Anita L. and husband Frank Crank, and Tina M. and husband Michael Chardoin. His seven grandchildren Jason Starr, Adara (Starr) and husband Chuck Maness, Chloe Crank, Christopher Crank and wife Daurissa, Kevin Crank, Michael Chaudoin and wife Sarah, and Alexandria Chadoin. His seven great grandchildren Daniel Starr, Samuel Crank, Michael Crank, Judah Crank, Logan Chadoin, Emma Chadoin, Leah Maness, those who proceed him in death are his parents Clifford Craig Cox, Stepfather Lester Hutchison and his mother Alyssa Brooks Hutchison, his brother Ivan Cox and sister Naomi (Noni) Cox Fisher.

On Thursday, July 14th, 2022, there will be a viewing at 10:00 a.m. at the Life In Christ Center Church, 3095 Cherry Heights Rd. The Dalles, OR. The Funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. following the viewing. The graveside service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the IOOF cemetery on Cherry Heights Rd. for the burial.
