Bruce Lorenz
Bruce was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Henry and Helene Lorenz, the oldest of his three siblings. His family moved and settled in Eastern Oregon where he spent most of his youth in La Grande and Pendleton where he developed a love of fishing and hunting. Everyone who knew Bruce would agree he was a character, from the beginning to his final days.
As a young man he rode broncos in rodeos, and owned and piloted an airplane. He put himself through college, the first in his family, at the University of Idaho. He graduated with a degree in chemical engineering which developed into a career in the aluminum industry with Harvey Aluminum, Martin Marietta, and later, NW Aluminum. He met and married Yvonne (nee Muller) Corcoran embracing an instant family that included four children that soon became six. Coaching basketball, softball, and volunteering with St. Mary’s kept him busy with his family and in the community. He was an avid golfer and taught his family to golf. With so many golfers in the family, he sponsored an annual family/friends golf tournament that continues to this day. After retiring, he traveled the world with his own aluminum consulting business helping companies establish or improve their aluminum production. Throughout his career he never missed a hunting season.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a sister. He is survived by a sister, his 6 children, 9 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held April 20 from 1-3pm at the Bargeway Pub and Catering in The Dalles.
