Joanne "Jody" Lee Conroy

Joanne “Jody” Lee Conroy passed away peacefully on October 16, 2021, at her home in The Dalles, Oregon. Jody was born March 28, 1933, in Portland, Oregon, to Ernest Albert Richards and Gladys Bernetta (Grimes) Richards.

When she was a junior in high school, her family moved from the Oregon City/West Linn area to Maupin, Oregon, where her parents then operated the Maupin Auto Court, which supplied cabins and supplies for fishermen in the area. While in high school, Jody helped her parents with the business. She was also a telephone operator for the telephone company in Maupin, after graduating from Maupin High School, as it was called back then.

Jody married Peter John Conroy on December 2, 1952, and moved to the Bakeoven area. Together they raised three children on their wheat and cattle ranch.

Jody enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, and shopping.

Jody is survived by her children, Kathleen A. Conroy, The Dalles, Oregon, Anthony J. Conroy, West Linn, Oregon, and Kevin E. Conroy, Maupin, Oregon.

Our mother will be missed very much.

Henry Beebe Brown

Henry Beebe Brown, 81, was born on July 28th, 1940, to Howard and Edna Brown in Farmerville, New York. 

Henry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and passed away on October 17th.  Henry is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Brown, seven children, twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Henry served in the United States Army, serving in Korea and Germany.  Henry was a InJim Scout in Vietnam and a Drill Sgt in Fort Lewis, Washington.  Henry was a farmer, drove semi-trucks and a handy-man. 

Henry woke up every morning choosing to be happy, generous, spiritual, faithful, and exemplifying a servant's heart through his life, church, and hospice work.  He was awarded the 2013 Man of the Year in The Dalles, Oregon. Henry never met a stranger and left a lasting impact in everyone's lives around him.  He was adored by many and will be missed very much.

The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice for their love and support.  A celebration of life will be November 6th at 11:00 AM at Emmanuel Baptist, 2819 W 10th Street, The Dalles, Oregon 97058.

Dan Kenslow

Daniel Harold Kenslow, 77, died September 24, 2021, at his home in The Dalles. He was born on July 5,1944, to Wayne and Helen (Lingo) Kenslow in Dayton, WA. His father worked in construction so he spent his younger years moving with the family. He lived in Washington, California, and Oregon, settling in The Dalles when he was in junior high. He graduated from The Dalles High School in 1962. After attending college he joined the Army in 1966. He married Patricia Sutherland in March 1967 and left for Vietnam two weeks later. While in Vietnam he volunteered to join the LRRPs (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol) and was the point man for his team, earning two Bronze Stars for valor in combat.

After military service he went to work for The Dalles TV Company as a lineman and spent the next 34 years working for the various owners of that cable company. He retired in 2005.

He enjoyed the outdoors and the family spent many wonderful weekends skiing on Mt. Hood, camping and hunting in the mountains and steelhead fishing on the Deschutes River. He was a dedicated archer and bowhunter, and a lifetime member of the Celilo Bowmen Archery Club.

He is survived by his mother Helen of The Dalles, his wife of 54 years Patricia, sons Eric (Eila) of Beaverton and Jay (Tiffany) of The Dalles, granddaughter Jamie (Cody) Sellers of Lyle, and grandsons Reese and Bodee Kenslow of The Dalles.

 A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2022 with exact date TBA. Further details will be provided by Spencer, Libby, and Powell Funeral Service.

Harvey D. Prouty “Harv” age 87 former “mayor” of 3rd and Washington, passed away September 5th, 2021 at his home in The Dalles surrounded by family. 

        He was born in Osawatomie Kansas June 12, 1934, to Father Harvey Prouty and Mother Sadie Lenthicon, they both preceded him in death.  He had 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Sister Geraldine, brothers Wesley, Victor, Fred, Tony, and sister Dot.

        His family moved to Nampa, Idaho when Harvey was very young, and he spent most of his childhood there with his brothers and sisters running the streets of Nampa. 

        He served in the United States Navy in the Korean War from 1952-1955 and was stationed on the U.S.S Essex CUA-9.  After leaving the Navy, he went to barber school. Upon graduating, he worked with his great friend Jim Kelly at “Kelly’s Barber Shop” in The Dalles. He bought the barber shop when Jim passed and kept the Kelly name in honor of Jim Kelly’s Barber shop is where he spent 40 plus years and made lots of great friends until he retired in 2010. 

        He was married to Kaye for 25 years. She precedes him in death.  They loved to travel together and had a great love of life with friends and family. 

        He was a member of the Elks lodge and trustee for 9 years.  He was also a member of The Fort Dalles Rodeo Association where he served as president in 1990-1991. He took many trips to Vegas for the NFR with his buddies: Milt, Steve, and Greg. 

        He is survived by his Son Stan Prouty and his Daughter Stephanie Ryan (husband Chris).  

His Grandkids, Marshall Thompson (wife Keli), Jessica Canady (husband Ryan) and Caitlyn Rivas (husband Javier).  Great-Grandkids; Bayli, Jersey, Adeline, Lincoln, Cruz, and baby girl Rivas. 

His Brothers Wes, Fred and Tony, Sisters Geraldine, and Dot, as well as many nieces and nephews in Idaho.  Harvey loved his family very much.  

        His Celebration of life will be October 2,2021 at Spencer, Libby, and Powell at 2pm. Please join his family to celebrate his life.
