Marian Lee Dyche

Marian Lee Dyche of The Dalles, Oregon died January 13, 2022; she was 81.  Marian was born January 19,1940 in Bakersfield California. She was the second of four children born to Frank Marion Arthur and Helen Alberta Burton Arthur; Her siblings include two brothers, Gene Arthur and Glen Arthur and one sister, Carol Arthur Palmer. As a young woman, Marian married Donald C. Dyche and together they raised their two sons, Greg Dyche and Philip Dyche. Their family began in California and continued in Bernardsville, NJ.  With her children grown and off on their own adventures, (she once said that one of her favorite things throughout her life was seeing what her boys did next), Marian returned West. In The Dalles, with her partner, Lloyd Evans, Marian owned and operated a bed and breakfast in the heart of the Historic Trevitt District. Most importantly, as a lifelong artist and admirer of all art and artists, Marian truly found her fiber and her flock. She co-founded Gorge Artists Inc., and served both it and The Dalles Art Center as a member of their Boards of Directors. She also managed The Columbia Art Gallery in Hood River.  Marian is remembered as a dear friend, a patient tutor, a modest, but perfection achieving spinner and weaver; Marian leaves an empty space for all, especially for her fellow members of the Colombia Fibre Guild and the Tuesday Spinners. One of the very early members of the Guild, she was always welcoming to new members, making them feel a part of the group.  An amazing fiber artist in her own right, Marian was the recipient of numerous awards and accolades and a frequent judge at county fairs. She was always ready to help others become better at their craft, quietly sharing tips and advice when it was wanted.  Frequently, she shared her home with the Tuesday spinning group, making Tuesdays a get together no one wanted to miss!  You could always find Marian with her drop spindle in her hand.

It is with great sadness we say goodbye.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents and brother (Gene), as well as her partner.  She is survived by her two sons, sister and brother (Glen), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Donna Lee Robertson

Donna Lee Robertson, our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away on

January 2, 2022 to be with her Lord and Savior. Donna had been living with her daughter Julie

and son in law Pete Nicholson after she broke her hip in June 2021.

Donna was born to Herbert and Lela Dohm on January 19, 1933. She attended St. Mary’s

school for primary education and then transferred to The Dalles High School to complete her

education, and graduated in 1951. It was during these high school years she would meet Jack

Robertson whom she married on March 28, 1953.

During her high school years, Donna worked at Craig’s office supply and then the First National

Bank of Oregon until she moved to San Diego to be with Jack in 1953-1954 after he returned

from his Naval duty in Hawaii.

After Donna and Jack returned to The Dalles, she returned to working at the First National Bank

until she retired after their son Jay was born. She also did some modeling for the bank. She

went on to babysit for other families so she could be at home with Julie, Jay and Jon. Once all

her children were in school, Donna started working for Jesse’s flower shop for a number of

years until she opened her own cleaning business. She retired from her business to take care

of Jack when he had his stroke in 1996.

She had breast cancer in her early 50’s and went on to beat it. She then volunteered for “reach

for recovery” for a number of years.

Donna had various hobbies but her favorite hands down was to be friends with everyone she

met. Shopping with Donna was an adventure because she could never just run in and out. She

chatted with everyone she knew and some people she didn’t know. Her other hobbies were

spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild, working crossword

puzzles, knitting, gardening, reading, riding motorcycles with Jack, and camping.

Donna also reconnected with Vern Sewell in 2008. They enjoyed spending time together until

his death in 2018.

Donna was diagnosed with dementia in 2015 and was able to stay in her home until late 2019.

She then went back and forth between Vancouver and The Dalles with all of her children and

her daughter in law caring for her. We also want to thank the caregivers at Bobbi’s Way and

Nancy Nations, her caregiver in Vancouver.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Jack Robertson in 2006, her mother and father in 1977

and 1967, and her older brother who passed in 1931 at age 8 months. Donna is survived by her

children: Julie (and Pete) Nicholson, Jay Robertson (and Wendy Hernandez), Jon (and Amy)

Robertson, grandchildren: Jonathan Robertson (and Kyria Bracco), Amanda Fletcher (and

Dylan), Ashley Rickett (and Mark), and Abby Robertson (Taylor Chamberlain), and great

grandchild Jaxon Bracco.

A celebration of life has been planned for May 7th between 1 and 4 at the First Christian Church

in The Dalles unless there is another Covid outbreak. There was a private viewing on January

12th and there will be a private burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the

Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association.

Bailey Brandsberg Pridgeon

Bailey Pridgeon, 36, died December 2, 2021 from a hiking accident near Mt Hood.

Bailey was born in Toledo, Oregon. He grew up in Newport, attended school at Toledo and Newport, and graduated from Newport High School in 2004. At OIT he earned a BS in Vascular Sonography and then practiced in Portland and Seattle. He was awarded the most accurate vascular ultrasound tech at school and later helped construct vascular ports for dialysis patients. He also worked at Fred Meyers in the pick-up department. Bailey felt good about helping obtain food for people during Covid,

He most loved hiking, camping and waterfalls, always returning from an adventure relaxed and with an enormous smile. The McKenzie River was his favorite. Bailey had many interests including: reading voraciously, building robot models, board, card and role playing games, cooking shows and animals. His knowledge was truly encyclopedic. For several years he participated in theater camp at the PAC and worked as a counselor. He was a very kind man.

He found his higher power in Buddhism. His studies gave him a Yoda-like peaceful strength. Bailey was a man of few words, but when he spoke, people listened to each carefully thought out word, as they were always worth hearing.

He is survived by his parents, Jeff and Jill Pridgeon, aunts and uncles Matt (Bobbie) Pridgeon, Ben (Jaime) Pridgeon, Roxie (Al) Nakamura, John Brandsberg and Catherine Rondthaler, and cousins Frances Pridgeon, Andrew Pridgeon, Cameron and Nick Brandsberg. A memorial service will be held this spring in the McKenzie River area.
