Rubin Leroy Hinkle
Rubin "Bill" Leroy Hinkle passed away peacefully on February 19, 2021 at the age of 93. Born in Portland, Or. to Fred and Mary Hinkle on February 14,1928. They Resided at 1338 Banks st where Bill was raised as one of eight children. He attended school in the St. Johns area and reached grade 8 when he started working odd jobs as a painter, truck driver, and at a furniture manufacturer. He then found himself enlisted in the Army, which took him to Japan during WWll. After serving his time in the 34th Infantry Regiment as a technician 4th grade he returned home in 1947, he settled in working at a box factory for a bit, then later found his career for many years as a local custodian in the Portsmouth/St. Johns school districts until he retired. After his retirement he spent many afternoons teeing off at many of his favorite golf courses in the portland metro area and volunteering at Golden Harvest, a non-profit food pantry. He is survived by his only daughter Pamela Hinkle of Portland, Or., 3 granddaughters, 1 grandson, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. At the time of his passing he was residing in The Dalles, Or. at Flagstone Senior Center for Living. Bill had always hoped to return back to Portland and his family will honor his wishes. Mr. Hinkle will be laid to rest with his brothers at Willamette National Cemetery on Friday March 5, 2021 at 10:00am. Due to Covid-19 we are only planning a graveside service at this time. A golf game will be hosted by his granddaughter Nicole Snyder-Hinkle in his honor at a future date.
